Built to Help, Even If It’s Just One Person

Energy Flow is a Canadian self-improvement resource built by someone who has lived through the hard parts — and came out the other side with something worth sharing.

Who’s Behind This

My name is Nolan. I’m a Canadian Army veteran turned systems administrator, and I built Energy Flow because I spent years looking for honest, practical self-improvement content that didn’t feel like it was written by a committee or designed to sell me something.

I’ve dealt with depression, anxiety, and the kind of stress that comes from going through career transitions, personal setbacks, and the slow rebuild that follows both. I’ve been through breakups that floored me and made me question everything, and I’ve had enough hard moments to know that the advice you need in those moments has to be real — not motivational wallpaper.

The books, habits, and frameworks on this site are the ones I actually read, tested, and kept coming back to. The personal stories in the articles are mine. The opinions are honest, including when something didn’t work as advertised.

I built this site with one goal: to help at least one person. If that’s you — if something here lands at the right moment — then it was worth building.

What Energy Flow Covers

The content here spans four areas I’ve personally spent time in:

Habits & Behavior
Habit formation, productivity, and daily routines backed by science. Built around frameworks from Atomic Habits, the 4 Laws of Behavior Change, and the 1% Rule.
Mindset & Self-Image
Your self-image shapes your behaviour more than any system you build. I explore tools like Psycho-Cybernetics and practical mindset work that creates lasting change from the inside out — including dealing with imposter syndrome, fixed mindset, and the patterns that keep people stuck.
Personal Finance
Money is emotional before it’s mathematical. I break down the psychology behind financial decisions using The Psychology of Money, Rich Dad Poor Dad, and the timeless principles of The Richest Man in Babylon.
Mental Wellness
Mental health is the foundation everything else is built on. The Abyss is a space for when life gets hard — honest, grounded, and always pointing toward support. If you need to talk right now, call or text 9-8-8.

How I Approach This

Honesty over hype
I tell you when something doesn’t work as advertised. The goal is genuine improvement, not feeling good about standing still.
Real experience, not theory
The personal voice sections in every article are drawn from things I’ve actually lived. Not fabricated relatability — actual experience.
Accessibility
Everything here is free. Personal growth shouldn’t require expensive coaches or courses. A good book and honest reflection can do more than most programs.
Consistency over intensity
Small steps, taken consistently, create extraordinary results. That’s not a tagline — it’s the operating philosophy I’ve seen work in my own life and in every framework worth following.

A Note on Affiliate Links

Some links on this site — particularly to books on Amazon — are affiliate links. As an Amazon Associate, I earn a small commission from qualifying purchases at no extra cost to you. I only link to books I’ve personally read and found genuinely valuable. Affiliate income helps keep the site running and the content free.
